Volleyball: Chargers lose to Underwood in four sets

Missing both of their middle hitters because of injuries, Brandon-Evansville was able to take the first set from Underwood on Thursday but dropped the next three, losing 4-1 in Evansville.

The Chargers played a strong offensive game with 10 ace serves and 30 kills overall.

Freshman outside hitter Bailey Schaefer had a double-double night with 12 kills and 10 digs. Senior outside hitter Allie Satterlie had 13 kills, 6 digs, 5 blocks and 2 ace serves. Setter Madison Quinn had 30 set assists for the Chargers.

"We knew if we had a chance we would have to limit our mistakes and capitalize on theirs if they made any," B-E coach Kelly Olson said. "I felt set one we were in control the entire set. We came out strong and limited errors we made with the ball."

The Chargers took the first set 25-19. But the Rockets adjusted and closed out the Chargers in the second set, 25-21.

"That third set we were deflated," Olson said. Olson gave some of his starters a break and exercised the bench a little in the third set. The Rockets took it 25-14.

The Chargers got their heads back in the game for the fourth set. The set was back and forth, but the Rockets won the set off an ace serve over the tape by the Rockets' outside hitter Brenna Tinjum making the final set score 26-24.

"What can you do but smile for that one, it was a great serve. An inch lower and who knows," Olson said. "We played hard, and we had fun. We put ourselves in the best position we could. Underwood got that last point and the only thing we can do is move on."

This loss brings the Chargers overall record to 4-4.

The Chargers head to a tournament in Glenwood this weekend where they'll open play against Ortonville on Saturday, Sept. 16.
