Sports Roundup from Friday, May 12
The Brandon-Evansville softball teams was swept by Ortonville on Friday by scores of 6-5 and 14-6.
The Chargers (12-4) led game one 5-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but Ortonville (7-5) was able to get three runs in each of the last two innings to steal the win.
"Defensively, we made some tough plays, but we gave up too many extra outs in the late innings," head coach Kasi Sieling said. "Give credit to Ortonville for never backing down and being able to find the gaps and bring runners in to come away with the win.
B-E also secured a lead in game two, but a five-run fourth and a three-run fifth for Ortonville were too much to handle.
"Tonight we had girls playing in different positions and younger girls stepping in to fill some new roles," Sieling said. "It is encouraging to see these younger girls step in and make some tough plays, as well as have solid at-bats. I'm very proud of the way the girls battled tonight. Unfortunately, tonight just wasn't our night against a solid Ortonville team."
