Blizzard hockey: Alex dominates Breezy Point

The Alexandria Blizzard dominated its only game of the weekend on Friday night, and it came against a team right behind it in the West Division standings.

Breezy Point came to town with a 21-13-2 record but left with a 7-0 shutout as the Blizzard (23-11) moved two points up on the North Stars in the standings. Alexandria's 46 points is good for second place in the division, six behind Granite City in first.

The Blizzard blew things open in the middle period with four goals. That was sandwiched around a goal in the first from Tommy Giller and two more in the third from Josiah Roen at 7:07 and 10:42. Roen had a three-point night after adding an assist.

Logan Norman had a big game with two second-period goals and two more assists. Brett Meister added the other two goals in the second period. Alex Bowe, Jack Cernohous, Steven Gustafson, David Carey, Tosten Mann, Logan Nelson (2) and Riley Meyer all added assists.

Brey Effertz stood tall in net and got the win in 59 minutes, 42 seconds of ice time. He turned aside 13 shots before Michael Hughes worked the final 12:30 and stopped five shots to complete the shutout. Alexandria outshot the North Stars 61-18 on the night.

The Blizzard is back in action on Feb. 4 in a road contest with Willmar at 7:10 p.m.
