Blizzard hockey: New Ulm rolls over Alex at the RCC
The Alexandria Blizzard had a four-game winning streak snapped by New Ulm on Friday night as the Steel came to the Runestone Community Center and won 6-2.
The Steel scored three goals in the first period and led 3-0 before the Blizzard's Brenden Payne stopped the bleeding at 17:05 of the first. New Ulm answered with three more consecutive goals to run away with the win. David Carey scored for Alexandria at 19:37 of the third with the game already in hand for the Steel.
Brey Effertz took the loss in net after allowing three goals on nine shots in just 13 minutes, 23 seconds of action. Michael Hughes took over and allowed three goals with 23 saves in 46:37. Jon Albers got the win by turning aside 26 of the 28 shots he faced.
These two teams will battle again tonight, Saturday, in New Ulm with a 7:10 drop of the puck.
