College baseball coming to Alexandria this weekend

Baseball fans in the area will have a chance to see two Division II teams play at Knute Nelson Ballpark this weekend after a late schedule change for Southwest Minnesota State University and Wayne State.

Due to expected poor weather in Nebraska this weekend, SMSU reached out to former Mustangs player and current Cardinals coach Jake Munsch to see if it would be possible to play their weekend series in Alexandria.

The two teams will meet Friday with a doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m. and conclude the series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon.

The Mustangs enter the weekend with a 6-27 record, while Wayne State is 9-24. Both play in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
