Baseball: Ashby drops opener to Sebeka

The Ashby baseball team lost its season-opening game to Sebeka 5-0 on Thursday at home in Ashby.

The visiting Trojans ran out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first with a two-run RBI single by William Hannu and took advantage of multiple Ashby errors and walks to tack on two more runs in the second inning.

Sebeka scored its final run of the evening off an Arrow error in the top of the fourth.

“We struggled finding the strike zone and getting key hits with runners in scoring position,” Ashby head coach Jared Larson said. “I think it had to do a lot with the first-game jitters. Big credit to their pitcher on pounding the zone and keeping our guys off-balance.”

The Arrows freshman pitcher Christian Norby allowed only two hits, but did not receive the necessary run support to keep pace.

Ashby senior Miles Wing, sophomore Cody Fults and Jaden Norby each recorded singles on the night.

Ashby faces Brandon-Evansville (1-0) at home on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
