Blue Anchors drop first game of second half

Thunder Bay 5, Alexandria 4

A ninth-inning rally came up just short in the first game of the second half of the season on Wednesday as the Blue Anchors lost 5-4 at home against Thunder Bay.

Alexandria led 3-0 after five innings before a five-run sixth inning for the Border Cats gave them the lead. The Blue Anchors answered with one in the ninth on a Jordan Lee RBI groundout after two walks by Cam Duzenack and Craig Nennig opened the inning.

Alexandria left the tying run on base as Kris Goodman struck out swinging for the second out. Roman Collins walked, but a groundball out at first off the bat of Nehwon Norkeh ended the game. Norkeh and Rickey Sanchez each had two hits in the game to lead the Alexandria offense.

These two teams will play again tonight, Thursday, with a first pitch of 6:35 at Knute Nelson Ballpark.
