First inning sinks Blue Anchors on Sunday

Waterloo 8, Alexandria 3

The Alexandria Blue Anchors are 9-23 with two games left in the first half of the season after an 8-3 loss to Waterloo saw them split the two-game set with the Bucks.

Waterloo scored five runs in the first inning on Sunday and never looked back from there. The Bucks pounded out 15 hits and improved to 23-11 in the first half. That’s the most wins of any team in the North Division with Willmar sitting a half a game in front of them with a 21-8 record.

Sean Stutzman took the loss after going just one inning. He allowed five runs, one earned, on six hits and a walk. Rob Mouton stopped the bleeding by throwing four innings and allowing just one run on three hits and three walks, but the damage had already been done.

Alexandria had seven hits and scored once in the first and twice in the eighth. Nehwon Norkey had two hits, including a double and two RBIs. Jordan Lee extended his hitting streak to nine games with a single and a run scored. His average sat at .412 in 68 at-bats after Sunday.

The Blue Anchors will welcome in division-leading Willmar tonight at 6:35.
