Win streak reaches 10
The Alexandria tennis team got its 15th win of the season on Tuesday night as the Cardinals rolled over Rocori in a 6-1 Central Lakes Conference match.
Alexandria changed its lineup around, moving Carly Snell to first singles and Marissa Wheeler over to the second singles spot from first doubles. Both players responded well as they earned straight-set victories to set the tone for the night.
“Both Carly and Marissa dictated play and never lost control of their matches,” head coach Dave Ronning said.
Kim and Kerri Wilkins continued to play well together at second doubles. They haven’t lost together this year after coming away with a 6-1, 6-3 win on Tuesday at second doubles. Abby Telander and Jenna Steffl won 6-1, 6-3 at third doubles and Rachel Sjostrand and Ellie Bergstrand teamed up at first doubles for the first time and overcame a rough start to win 1-6, 7-6 (2), 6-1.
Hannah Vickstrom got the most convincing win of the day for Alexandria. She needed just 35 minutes to win 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles to help her team improve to 7-2 in CLC matches.
“We have had a nice run in winning our last 10 matches,” Ronning said. “The coaches hope that we have expanded our games through this streak so we can give Tech and Brainerd a good run for their money. We lost to both teams earlier this season, and we look forward to see how we measure up to them this second time around.”
Alexandria was scheduled to play conference power St. Cloud Tech again last night, Thursday.
