WCA football up for challenge in Prairie Conference
The West Central Area football team will need their returning starters to step up in order to improve in the tough Prairie Conference this season.
Last year, the Knights finished 2-7, which included a 0-5 record in the conference. Head coach David Drexler said the team will need to work hard to improve in the standings this season.
"We will need to get better every day, play smart and disciplined football, and come together as a team if we are to see success on Friday nights," Drexler said. "With that said, we have a very hard working group of individuals this year that are ready to meet the challenge head on."
The Knights lost 10 seniors from last year, but nine returning letter winners give them experience.
"We return a fair amount of starters from last season but will need our younger guys to step up and contribute, especially on the offensive and defensive line," Drexler said.
In the tough Prairie Conference South, one of the goals for the Knights this season is to stay on the field.
"It is vital that we stay healthy this year," Drexler said. "We also need to get it done off the field by making good decisions."
As the defending champion, Browerville is expected to be the favorite in the Prairie Conference South. Ottertail Central and Royalton are also expected to be title contenders.
Browerville is also the favorite for Section 6A, with Upsala/Swanville Area and Royalton also expected to be contenders.
