Osakis tennis improves to 8-0

The season has started exactly as planned for the Osakis tennis team after going undefeated through their first eight matches.

The Silverstreaks improved to 8-0 with wins against Parkers Prairie and Pierz on Tuesday in Osakis. The Silverstreaks never lost a set in either match as they rolled to a total of 14 individual wins on the day.

Every match this season has been a sweep for the Silverstreaks besides a 4-3 win against state-ranked Melrose. After coming into the season ranked third among Class A teams, the early success has been expected.

"No real surprises so far," head coach Ryan Maddock said. "We had a lot of kids back and knew what they are capable of doing. We are happy with our play so far this season."

The Silverstreaks have worked on improving every day, and they hope to continue that trend until they begin the section playoffs.

"We feel the team is steadily improving a little bit with each match, and we are hoping to peak at section tournament time," Maddock said.

In both matches on Tuesday, the singles lineup of Taylor Kraemer (first singles), Alexa Hoffarth (second singles), Hannah Baker (third singles) and Hannah Szech (fourth singles) remained the same for the Silverstreaks.

But their doubles lineup has changed more often through their first eight matches of the season.

The Silverstreaks started a lineup of Katie Anderson and Ashley Kraemer at first doubles, Katelyn Foster and Peyton Garcia at second doubles and Elyse Wiener and Morgan Silbernick at third doubles against Parkers Prairie.

None of those doubles teams were the same in their second match against Pierz. Maddock said he is using the early part of the season to find the right combination for the doubles teams.

"We have a number of players who are close in ability, so it has been good to see different combinations before settling in for the season," Maddock said. "The girls do a great job of playing with whomever they are asked to play with."

The next match for Osakis is next Tuesday against Staples-Motley in Staples.
