Sub-state 14 Tournament

Alexandria 6, Bemidji 5 F/13

The Alexandria Legion baseball team kept its season alive twice on Sunday, rallying in the bottom of the ninth and 13th innings before winning 6-5 to force a winner-takes-all rematch against Bemidji for the sub-state title today.

Pat Leary delivered the game-winning at-bat on a sacrifice fly that scored Zach Peterson in the 13th inning. Jeff Swedberg led off the inning with a double with his team down by one before Peterson hit him in with a single. Alexandria had trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth before rallying for two runs to force extras.

Alexandria 6, Moorhead 4

Post 87 beat Moorhead earlier in the day on Sunday to punch its ticket to the championship through the loser's bracket. Swedberg and Mitch Thompson both homered against Moorhead, while Leary was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Nick Knoblach gave Post 87 8 1/3 solid innings. He allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out seven.


Alexandria 16s 3, Benson 0

The Alexandria 16s advanced to the championship game of the District 5 tournament with a 3-0 win over Benson on Sunday.

Danny Kuhn was in complete control on the mound for Alexandria. He struck out nine in seven innings, allowing just four hits and walking just one in the shutout.

Spencer Lucas, Kaden Anderson and Grant Toivonen each had two hits. Toivonen had an RBI double in the third inning, while Lucas drove in Anderson with a single in the first. Alexandria will now play Starbuck for the district title tonight at 6 in Spicer. Starbuck has to win twice to win the championship.


West Championship - Brandon-Evansville 3, Urbank-PP 1

The Brandon-Evansville Bluedogs won the regular-season title in the West and now the tournament title after beating Urbank-Parkers Prairie 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Collin Modahl threw eight scoreless innings to get the win for the Bluedogs. He allowed just four hits and one walk, while striking out six. Shawn Krueger had a nice day at the plate with two hits, including a double, and two RBIs.

EAST CHAMPIONSHIP - Carlos 5, Clarissa 4

The Carlos Cougars will take a 16-0 record into the Region 14C tournament after rallying for a 5-4 win over Clarissa to win the East tournament title on Sunday.

The Cougars trailed 4-0 in this one before scoring three in the sixth and adding one more in the seventh to tie the game. That's how things went to the ninth before the Cougars used a sacrifice fly to score what turned out to be the winning run.
