The Alexandria based Vikingland Curling Club is sending a men's team to the 2013 Arena Curling Championship on July 18 through 21 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Vikingland Curling director Jason Rauk said the club had enough male curlers interested in the event to enter a five-person team. They were awarded a berth for the Minnesota region from the United States Curling Association.

"All five members of the team are seasoned curlers, but for the majority this will be their first national event," said Rauk.

One of the Vikingland team members has been curling for 20 years, and another for 15 years. The other three members began curling around the time the club was formed in 2005.

Some of the teams competing at the event are expected to play at a high level. Rauk guessed that a few of the teams will be curling near a national championship level.

"I believe our team will do very well in terms of level of play," he said.

The Vikingland team consists of Alexandria residents Troy Dittberner, Andy Siira, Logan Moore, Michael Bouressa and Jason Lattimer.

The curling championship is a double knockout event and will begin at 8:30 a.m. on July 18.
