Sports roundup from Thursday, July 11
Alexandria 5, Mankato 2
The Blue Anchors snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the Mankato Moondogs 5-2 on Thursday night.
Michael Barash did almost all the damage offensively for Alexandria. The LSU designated hitter had a home run and a double on his way to driving in four of Alexandria's five runs.
That's all the offense fellow LSU teammate Hunter Newman needed. He got the win in six solid innings for the Blue Anchors. Newman struck out seven, walked three and allowed just one run on five hits.
Morris 6, Brandon-Evansville 1; Morris 4, Brandon-Evansville 0
The Morris Legion baseball team swept a doubleheader from Brandon-Evansville on Thursday night to wrap up the top seed in the tournament and leave Brandon-Evansville with the second seed.
Nolan Bartholomew and Blake Satterlie both threw well enough to give their team a chance, but the offense couldn't solve the Morris pitching all night. Brandon-Evansville's only run came in game one after a leadoff triple from Craig Campbell. Gage Olson then drove him in with a single.
Brandon-Evansville finished the regular season 11-4.
