Alex Legion baseball: Post 87 sweeps Thief River Falls

The Alexandria Post 87 baseball team used a couple solid pitching performances to secure 8-2 and 8-0 wins in Thief River Falls last Tuesday night.

Beau Backhaus and Chris Leary helped make the long drive worth it by tossing a couple gems. Leary allowed just one hit in six innings in the nightcap. He walked one and struck out two.

"This was a very good outing for Chris, especially after Monday night when his stuff just was not on," head coach Jake Munsch said. "He was able to forget about it and come in and give us a much-needed quality start."

Backhaus went all seven innings in the opener. He scattered seven hits and two walks, while striking out five.

"Beau was in control all game," Munsch said. "Every pitch he threw was on and that made it very difficult for Thief River to get into any rhythm. Our defense played well behind Beau, making some big plays and not giving the Bandits any second chances."

Cody McLaughlin continued to hit the ball well with three singles in game one. Mitch Thompson led the offense in game two with three hits, including two doubles. Ben Allen, Zach Peterson and Patrick Leary all doubled, as well.
