Section 5A boys' golf: Area boys don't advance

Ashby, Osakis and West Central Area had their boys' golf seasons come to an end in the Section 5A championships at Benson Wednesday.

None of the three teams sent full squads to the championships, only individual qualifiers.

The Silverstreaks' Paul Hartmann posted an 89 to lead the three Osakis golfers, while Joe Garcia finished with a 91 and Joey Kotek a 93.

For the Knights, Hunter Pfingsten carded a 90 and Jordan Bruns a 108, and Ashby's J.P. Moe finished with a 97.

"Hunter played real well most of the day," said WCA coach Kraig Hunter. "He had some trouble in a wet bunker on a par 3 and had some trouble on one par 5. He took a triple and quadruple bogey on those two holes.

"The rest of the day was mostly pars and bogeys, and one nice birdie on No. 12. He really blossomed throughout the year and has a nice future in golf as he is very dedicated.

"Jordan didn't have his best day," he added. "If you've played golf, you have had those days where the timing is a little off, and you know it's hard to get back on track. Those shots become very costly with a course like Benson with a lot of tight fairways lined with trees.

"However, looking back at the year, with a young team, it was a nice success. We overachieved as a team and Hunter and Jordan both had some nice individual accomplishments along the way."
