Section 6AA softball: Season ends for Minnewaska

In the elimination round of the Section 6AA softball tournament, the Minnewaska girls found themselves on the short end of a 2-1 score in their game against Pequot Lakes.

"I was very pleased with the team's effort," said head coach Steve Hoffmann. "We played hard. We made some big plays on defense at critical times.

"Offensively, we left eight runners on base. We just missed getting those big hits when we really needed them."

Early game jitters gave Pequot Lakes a two-run lead after the first inning, both coming with two outs.

Two consecutive singles, followed by a two-run double off the bat of Erin Zudbeck gave the Patriots that two-run padding.

From there, Laker pitcher Mady Phillips was solid, allowing just three more hits through the game.

The Laker offense came up with one run in the third, but couldn't put together a string of hits off Katie White, who scattered four hits through the seven inning stint.

"Mady Phillips pitched very well," Hoffman added. "In critical times during the game, she came up with some big pitches to get out of some jams."

Phillips allowed just six hits overall, striking out three in her six innings of action, not giving up a walk.

"I told the girls that we lost to a very good team," said Hoffmann. "However, we were right there with them. The game could've gone either way."
