Alexandria boys' golf: Cardinals are first at GreyStone
Alexandria senior Nick Brundell shot a 2-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors and lead the Cardinal boys' golf team to first in the Melrose Invitational played at GreyStone Golf Club in Sauk Centre Thursday.
"This was a good tune up for us as this meet is played on the Section 8AAA course," said head coach Rick Larson. "It was a beautiful day with sun, 60 degrees and light winds.
"The Alex players responded well. I told the guys to just relax and have some fun today, and most importantly, learn as much as they could about the course.
"I guess I should say that before every meet because a team score of 305 will probably put us in contention for the section," he added.
"Nick continues his low scoring, going 2-under-par. His last five meets have been the Nick I knew and have been waiting for.
"Aaron Johnson played very well today and his score included an eagle, which actually was within eight to 10 inches from being an albatross (a 2 on a par 5).
"Cole Haugen scored well, coming back from his 83 from Tuesday," Larson said. "Lukas Bigger just struggled out there today, and Kyle blank had a very good nine, and a not-so-good nine, but their scores counted.
"Nick Hanson played better than he did on Tuesday, but still not up to his normal scoring, but still a great showing today."
