B-E softball: Chargers outslug Hillcrest in 6A opener
The Brandon-Evansville softball team outslugged Hillcrest in the opening round of the Section 6A-South playoffs for a 13-11 win in some wet conditions on Tuesday night.
Many area softball and baseball games were postponed on Tuesday, but the Chargers and Comets battled through it to get their game in. Both teams went scoreless through the first two innings before the offenses erupted for a combined 11 runs in the fourth.
Brandon-Evansville had six of those runs and added five in the fifth to help take control of the game. The Comets tried to battle back but could only push one run across in the seventh as their comeback came up short.
"It was a great battle tonight in the rain," Chargers head coach Tim Pattrin said. "Both catchers played great behind the plate, stopping a slick ball. The girls showed their character by battling back and winning this game."
Megan Kokett had a big night for a Brandon-Evansville offense that pounded out 16 hits. Kokett had four of those, including two doubles, to go along with two runs and two RBIs. Carrigan Okerlund and Emma Friedrich added three hits apiece. Two of Friedrich's were doubles as the duo combined for six RBIs and four runs scored.
The win moved the Chargers into the double-elimination format of the tournament, where they were scheduled to play the winner of West Central Area and Parkers Prairie last night, Thursday, in Alexandria.
