CLC performers

of the week

Alexandria's Ben Allen, Blake Stockert, Briquelle Bowden and Amanda Bigger were all named Central Lakes Conference performers of the week in their respective sports.

Allen was named in baseball on offense after hitting 11-for-23 (.478) with nine runs, two triples and a home run.

Stockert was named in baseball on defense for winning two games while striking out 12 and allowing one earned run.

Bowden was named in track and field after tying a school record in the high jump with a height of 5'6".

Bigger was named in girls' golf after shooting rounds of 75, 77 and 76 in three meets and earning medalist honors with the 75.

AABA looking

The Alexandria Area Baseball Association (AABA) is looking for umpires for its Beetles League (grades 3-4) and Minor League (grades 5-6).

Youth tennis


The Alexandria Area Tennis Association is hosting a youth tennis tournament June 27-29 at Discovery Middle School tennis courts in Alexandria.

Space is limited to the first 16 entries in each of the following boys' and girls' divisions: varsity, junior varsity and middle school singles and mixed doubles divisions.

Singles entry fee is $15 and mixed doubles is $20 per entrant.

Youth soccer


Registration is open for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten soccer academy, and the Redbird U8 soccer league.

The programs will both begin the week of June 3.

Girls' golf of Alexandria kick-off event

The LPGE-USGA Girls Golf Club of Alexandria will host a 2013 "Kick-off Clinic and Fun Day" for girls ages 7-17 on Saturday, June 1, from 3-5 p.m.

The clinic will take place at the Alexandria Golf Club practice range. The cost is $10 and includes an afternoon of instruction, games, snacks and prizes. Girls will also have the opportunity to join the LPGE-USGA Girls Golf Club of Alexandria. Membership benefits include professional instruction, clinics, fun events and a membership kit.

There will be a Tuesday night bass fishing league sponsored by D Michael B's beginning May 28 on Lobster Lake at 5:30 p.m.

There is a $40 entry fee per night.

Summer watersports programs

Action Sports Ministries and Foundation 725 will hold their Wakn'up wakeboard and wakesurf program for youth ages 8-18 Tuesday afternoons and evenings in two four-week sessions.

The first four-week session is Tuesday, June 25 through July 16 and the second section is from Tuesday, July 23 through August 13.

Instruction will be by experienced coaches, with a meal and discussions off the water.

Osakis walleye


The Osakis Lions Club will hold its annual walleye fishing tournament on Lake Osakis June 15-16.

Registration for each two-person team is $350. Entry forms must be received by midnight on June 14.

Entry forms are available at various area bait shops in Osakis and Alexandria.

YMCA T-ball

The Alexandria Area YMCA youth T-ball program will begin Monday, June 3 for those in pre-kindergarten to grade 2. Morning and evening sessions are available.

Gun Club's Project Appleseed rifle clinic

The Alexandria Gun Club will hold a Project Appleseed clinic on June 15-16 at the club on Englund Road in Alexandria.

The clinic will focus on traditional rifle marksmanship skills.

Pre-registration cost is $80 for the weekend, with the cost for women $40 and for those younger than 18 $20. Range fees are not included.

USTA 10-younger

tennis workshop

The Alexandria Area Tennis Association, in cooperation with the USTA Northern Section staff, will hold a workshop for adult coaches, parents, volunteers and program leaders Saturday, June 22.

The workshop is from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Discovery Middle School tennis courts with check-in beginning at 9 a.m.

Cost is $15 per person by June 1 and $25 after that date.

Tennis mixer

The Alexandria Area Tennis Association will hold a tennis mixer from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, June 2 at the Discovery Middle School tennis courts.

The mixer is for adult tennis players of all ages and skill levels.

Cost is $5 for non-members and free of charge to AATA members. Tennis balls will be provided.

June 9 will be the rain date.

LAR swim lessons

Lakes Area Recreation summer private swim lesson registration begins Tuesday, May 28 at 9 a.m. both online and in person.

Lessons are available for participants ages 5 and older for Levels 1-6 and there are various times and dates to choose from.

FCA sports camps

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes sports camps will be held June 24-27 at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Golf camp will be July 7-10 in Becker, and other camps will be available in various locations.

The Alexandria FCA will pay 50 percent of camp fees for student-athletes who have completed grades 6-11. Transportation will be available.

Fall dance team program

Lakes Area Recreation will hold dance team training for girls in grades 7-12 with no tryouts necessary.

The program will serve as a starting point and training for dancers who are either interested in or part of the winter competitive Cardinal dance team.

Basic jazz and kick techniques as well as endurance and stretching will be part of the practices, which will culminate in a performance at a Cardinal football game this fall.

Baseball fundamentals

Nate Hoelscher will teach and help develop baseball fundamentals in fielding, hitting, pitching and more in a safe, fun and positive environment.

The camp runs Monday-Friday, June 10-14, 9 a.m.-noon for grades 3-4 and Monday-Thursday, 1-3 p.m. for grades 5-6.

SO Bocce program

The Alexandria Special Olympics Bocce program will begin on Thursday, June 6 at the Alexandria Area YMCA from 3-4:30 p.m.

St. Mary's golf tournament

The 6th annual St. Mary's School scholarship golf tournament will be held Wednesday, May 29 at the Geneva Golf Club.

Registration begins at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. There will be a social hour at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m.

Cost for a four-person team is $400 and includes green fees, cart, evening dinner, raffle entry and donation to the trust fund.

AGC clinics

The Alexandria Golf Club will be holding golf clinics on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning May 5.

There will be ladies' clinics on Thursdays from 6:30-8 p.m. and specialized clinics for men and women on Wednesdays from 6:30-8 p.m.

Dirck's Junior Golf program taking registrations

Heartland Orthopedic Specialists and Scott Dirck's Golf Academy's Junior Golf Development Program is now taking registrations for boys and girls ages 4-12.

The junior golf program will run from the week of June 17 through the week of July 29 at Dirck's Golf Academy at Geneva Golf Club.

Awake the Grapes runs

The third annual Awake the Grapes 10K and 5K are scheduled for Sunday, May 26 at Carlos Creek Winery.

Cost of the runs is $25 with online registration by May 15 and $30 on the day of the race.

The races are a fundraiser for the Alexandria Figure Skating Club and Alexandria Noontime Kiwanis.

AGC Golf Academy

The Alexandria Golf Club Junior Golf Academy will be held June 13 through August 23.

The academy is open to all boys and girls ages 5-15 with instruction by LPGA and PGA members.

The Rookies, ages 5-7, will meet Thursdays from 10-11:30 a.m.; Champs, ages 8-10, will meet Thursdays from 8-9:30 a.m.; and Pros, ages 11-15, will meet Fridays from 8-11 a.m.

AATA schedules family tennis night, workshops

The Alexandria Area Tennis Association will hold family tennis night on June 20, July 8, 18 and 29.

They will also host a USTA 10-under tennis workshop on June 22, and provide instructors for the 24th annual Golden Kiwanis Club tennis clinic June 24-28.

An AATA youth tennis tournament is slated for June 27-29.

Blue Anchors looking for host families

The Alexandria Blue Anchors baseball team is looking for community members who are willing to be host families for players through the Northwoods League season this summer.

United Way Golf Classic

The 13th annual United Way Golf Classic will be held Monday, June 10 at the Geneva Golf Course.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. Early bird team registration by May 15 will receive two opportunities for a year's membership at the club.

Cost is $400 for a 4-person team, $150 for a hole sponsorship, and $500 for both.

There will be raffles, plus competition for longest drive, closest to the pin, longest putt and winning team.

The Alexandria Area YMCA is offering a summer softball league for players in grades 7-8 beginning on Wednesday, June 5 at 6 p.m. at the Alexandria Technical College softball complex.

Softball tournament in Little Falls

The second annual Michael "Lody" Lodermeier Memorial softball tournament, set for Saturday, July 27 in Little Falls, is looking for teams.

The double-elimination tournament will be at the Lindbergh Lions Recreational Complex softball fields at 8th Street and 2nd Avenue Southwest. Games begin at 9 a.m.

Cost is $150 per team with the prize money determined by the number of entrants.

Cap Paciotti Memorial Golf Tournament

This year's Cardinal Athletic Foundation's Cap Paciotti Memorial Golf Tournament will be held June 15 at the Alexandria Golf Club. Cost of the tourney is $500 for a four-person team and includes green fees, cart, range balls, field events and dinner.

There will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start and the tournament will include a scramble, field events and hole-in-one contest, with skins and mulligans available at registration

Dinner and awards will begin at 5 p.m. Additional dinner tickets are available for $25 each

Holy Moly Ole Series

Lakes Area Recreation will again hold the Holy Moly Ole series of races, with all proceeds going directly to youth programs and scholarships.

Races will be held on Saturdays, May 18, June 8, July 20 and August 10 and will feature a 5K run, 10K run and family 5K walk. The final event will also feature a 15K run.

Cost is $20 per runner, $15 for the family 5K walkers and $10 for individual 5K walkers.

MSUM football camp

Minnesota State University-Moorhead football will hold a boys' offensive and defensive line camp Wednesday, June 19 at the MSUM campus.

Camp is open to athletes in grades 9-12 and will focus on fundamentals. Camp begins with check-in at 7 a.m. Cost is $50 per camper and lunch will be provided.
