Softball: Ashby sweeps Hillcrest in Little Eight Conference

The Ashby softball team exploded for 28 runs in a doubleheader sweep over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy last Tuesday night.

The Arrows had 16 hits in five innings during the nightcap. Sophomore Abbie Ras got her first varsity start on the mound and got the win after allowing four hits and just one walk, while striking out three.

"Abbie amazed me on her poise and composure out on the pitching mound," head coach Kandace Norby said. "She gave credit to her defense behind her as she knew they would be there to back her up."

Madison VanSanten backed up offensively with three hits, including two triples, to go along with three runs and three RBIs. Bailey Funkhouser, Chelsy Ness and Cassandra Jordan all had two hits apiece.

Amber Sundal got the win in game one after allowing just one hit through five innings. She struck out four and walked none. Emily Elliot, Jordan and Paige Nelson led the offense with two RBIs apiece.
