Softball: Minnewaska splits

Mady Phillips went the distance for the Lakers in their third win of the season, striking out eight in the 6-3 victory over Yellow Medicine East Friday.

The Laker junior gave up just one walk in the game, then helped her own cause as she was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Alyssa Engfer had a pair of doubles and a single in the win which saw the Lakers lead throughout the game.

A two-run error in the fourth, along with a previous solo run, halted Minnewaska's win streak at four as the Lakers fell to Paynesville 6-3 Tuesday.

The Bulldogs scored in the first inning, then added two more runs in the second, but the Lakers tied the game with three runs in the third.

Lexi Amundson had three hits in the game, including a double and two runs batted in.

Mady Phillips took the pitching loss as she went four innings, giving up all six runs.
