Girls' golf: West Central Area returns five to championship team

Five players return to the sub-section champion West Central Area girls' golf team this season, giving head coach Kari Kreft a nice foundation for the 2013 season.

Two of those players earned top-five finishes in third place Tiffany Boysen, a junior, and fourth place Marissa Hayward, also a junior.

"We look forward to a strong season with a core of five returning," said Kreft. "We will look to Marissa, Katie Larkin, Morgan Grove, Tiffany and McKenzie Hunter to lead us.

"We are expecting a lot of Hailey Kreft," she added. "She saw varsity playing time last year, but with a new opening in scoring position, we are hoping for her best scoring year yet."

Coach Kreft also has a group of five freshmen available to her.

"We are very excited about gaining a strong group of ninth graders," she said. "These five freshmen were not on the team last year, but are excited about the opportunity to be golfing and will more than likely take turns playing at the varsity level."

Kreft's team should have an edge in competition in the subsection, and will have to contend with powerhouses Perham and Pelican Rapids in Heart O' Lakes Conference play.
