Boys' hockey: Allen named Cardinal MVP

The Alexandria boys' hockey team named senior goaltender Ben Allen the team MVP at its season-ending awards banquet recently.

That was one of many awards Allen took home after posting a 92.7 save percentage and holding teams to a 2.4 goals against average. Allen was a second team all-section selection and an all-conference player. He also just got back from competing in the Great 8 Tournament, designated for some of Minnesota's top senior players.

Fellow seniors Tom Schmidt and Jack Wensman joined Allen on the All-Central Lakes Conference team. Matt Resch, Aaron Steidl, Parker Revering and Ryan Marciniak were honorable-mention selections. Allen and Wensman also earned the CLC Scholar Athlete Award for seniors who maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher.

Revering was named this team's most improved player as just a sophomore. He helped anchor the blue line and put up 11 points on four goals and seven assists. Resch earned the Mr. Hustle Award after putting up 18 points on seven goals and 11 assists. Senior Patrick Leary also earned the Hobey Baker Award for the team.

The Cardinals finished the year 11-14-1. Their 7-7-1 record in the CLC was good for fourth in league play. Brainerd-Pillager-Pierz won the CLC at 11-2.
