Boys' basketball: Brandon-Evansville foul trouble, illness leads to a loss to Hillcrest

The Brandon-Evansville boys played without two starters for much of the first half on Tuesday night as Hillcrest Lutheran Academy built a big lead and never looked back in a 57-37 game.

Senior post John Haseman had all five of his team's points in a 13-5 game when he went to the bench with three fouls. Senior Blake Satterlie started but only played four minutes before having to leave due to an illness. The Comets responded to those losses with a 16-3 run that all but ended things by the half.

"They've been struggling so this was their best game of the season, I think," Brandon-Evansville head coach John Holsten said. "They were having trouble scoring but they shot 62 percent last night."

Hillcrest was very efficient with its offense. The Comets shot 23-of-37 from the field and 11-of-14 from the free throw line. The Chargers connected on 42 percent of their shots (14-32) and were outrebounded 20-10.

Haseman bounced back from that early foul trouble to score 18 points in the second half. He had a team-high 23 to go along with five rebounds. Patrick Schaffer had six points, three rebounds and four assists as no other Brandon-Evansville player was in double figures.

Things won't get any easier for the Chargers as they prepare to welcome in a 10-2 Battle Lake team tonight, Friday, for another Little Eight Conference battle.
