Volleyball: West Central Area falls to LPGE

Although they didn't pick up the win, West Central Area head volleyball coach Beth Hanson was very pleased with the play of her Knight team against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thursday night.

"Tonight was an excellent showing for the Knights," said Hanson. "I saw a complete team I haven't seen yet this year.

"We battled all night and made fabulous comebacks before we fell 3-1. Long Prairie is a great team and we stuck with them. The girls showed the intensity we've been looking for all year. I am extremely proud of them!"

The Thunder came away with the win 25-21, 25-23, 24-26, 25-22.

"Long Prairie-Grey Eagle runs a very strong middle offense, which we focused on a lot this week," said the Knight coach. "I think we stuck with it fairly well and put together a good middle offense as well. We had some really long rallies tonight."

Kelsey Hammer and Tiana Christenson each had 10 kills for West Central Area, with Holly VanKempen contributing nine. Alysa Aanerud and Christina Kruize had three each.

"Christina did an excellent job of running our offense, getting 30 set assists on the night," said Hanson. "Holly did an excellent job altering the attacks of their hitters, leading us with eight blocks. Danielle Diedrich also blocked well with four."

Kruize and Aanerud each had two blocks.

Hammer had 21 digs, with Christenson adding 20 and Mariah Hennen had 14.
