Parkers Prairie football: Panthers fall to Eagle Valley in finale

The Eagle Valley football team doesn't need any help from the opposition but that's exactly what Parkers Prairie gave the Rebels in a 62-10 game that ended the Panthers' 2011 season last Wednesday night.

Parkers lost four fumbles and threw an interception to help a dominant Eagle Valley team move to 8-0 on the season. The Panthers dropped to 1-7 and did not make the Section 4 9-man playoffs.

"You can not commit five turnovers and expect to contain a dominant team like Eagle Valley," head coach Dan Johnson said. "Our hope was to sustain drives and at least force Eagle Valley to march the distance of the field...unfortunately, this game got out of reach quickly as we fumbled the ball three times in the third quarter and a 12-point game suddenly became a 36-point deficit."

The Panthers' first points came on a safety on a high snap on a punt as Parkers Prairie stuck with the Rebels in a 6-2 game through the first quarter. Eagle Valley added two more touchdowns in the second to take a 22-2 lead into the break.

The Rebels opened things up in the third. The Panthers' Tyler Schlosser scored on an 11-yard run to open the quarter before Eagle Valley scored three touchdowns to make it a 46-10 game. Schlosser was a bright spot for the Panthers with 129 yards rushing on 21 carries. He was also a part of 21 tackles against the sixth-ranked Rebels.

"Eagle Valley's seniors have put a lot of hard work into the off-season for several years," Johnson said. "They kept getting better due to their commitment and sacrifices. They deserve to be the champions of the Pheasant Conference North."

The Rebels put 594 total yards up on the Panthers and held Parkers to just 153 yards. Eagle Valley was dominant on the ground with 412 yards rushing.

The Panthers finished the season 1-7 with its lone win coming against Verndale in week six.
