Osakis football: Silverstreaks fall to Tigers
The Osakis football team stuck right with third-ranked Browerville but two plays within 30 seconds of each other played a big role in a 20-6 loss last Wednesday night.
The Tigers took a 13-0 lead on two of their first three possessions before the Osakis defense settled down.
The Silverstreaks were in good position to get right back in the game going into the half. They put together a drive that got them inside the Tigers' five-yard line with less than a minute to go. On second down and goal, Devin Waldvogel and Nikolaj Hagen fumbled the exchange on a handoff. Browerville jumped on the ball and shifted the momentum back in its favor heading to the break. The Tigers then turned the game completely in their favor by returning the second-half kickoff for a touchdown to take a 20-0 lead.
"That was a huge play," head coach Bill Infanger said of the fumbled exchange before the half. "We really felt like we had taken the momentum and to go in at halftime only down by a score would have made this a different game.
Waldvogel got Osakis on the scoreboard midway through the fourth when he connected with Kyle Swendstad for a 28-yard touchdown. The junior wide receiver finished with three catches for 68 yards.
The Silverstreaks finished the regular season 3-5 and 1-3 in the Prairie South Conference. They earned the No. 7 seed in the Section 6AA playoffs and faced Pierz in the opening round last night, Tuesday. The Pioneers were 7-1 going into the game.
