Montbriand named to Faribault Hall of Fame

Alexandria's Bob Montbriand is one of six former Faribault area athletes that will be inducted into the Faribault Area Sports Hall of Fame October 24.

Montbriand, who served as the Alexandria American Legion baseball coach for 14 years, is a 1950 graduate of Bethlehem Academy in Faribault, where he was an All-State football player in high school.

He was the District #7 Sub-District chairman from 1996-2006, and in 1992 received the District #7 Dr. R. M. Farrish award for outstanding contributions to American Legion baseball.

"Bob is and has always been a great supporter of not only the Alexandria Legion program, but the District #7 program and baseball in general," said Rueben Nathe, Minnesota Department Vice Director of American Legion Baseball. "He is a very deserving person to receive any award for volunteering his talent and time to this baseball program."

He also earned All-Conference high school honors in football, basketball and baseball before playing at the University of St. Thomas, where he was also All-Conference in football and basketball.

Along with Jeff Ernste, Josh Cagle, Chris Kern, Brent Peroutka and Rhonda (Thibault) Nowaczewski, Montbriand will be officially inducted at the 19th annual Faribault Sports Hall of Fame Banquet at 6:30 p.m. at the Faribault Knights of Columbus.

There will now be a total of 109 Faribault Sports Hall of Famers with the induction of the latest six.
