Osakis walleye tourney set for this weekend

The Osakis Lions Club is holding the 37th annual Lake Osakis Walleye Tournament this Saturday and Sunday, June 17-18.

The top three teams will receive plaques and cash prizes of up to $8,000, $5,000 and $3,000, respectively, depending on the number of teams that enter.

The limit of teams is set at 100. The festivities of the event start Friday, June 16 with a 5 p.m. social hour at Osakis VFW, with a mandatory rules meeting and banquet to follow at 6:30.

The fishing itself starts at 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and weigh-ins are at 3 p.m. both days.

A large-walleye contest will happen each day. Teams who want to enter contribute $20, and the winner takes the whole pot. Also, fishermen who catch the largest walleye each day will each receive a $50 gift certificate toward any mount, courtesy of Ricks Taxidermy and Barry Mielke Taxidermy.

An entry form and the $350 fee must be submitted by June 16 at midnight.
