LETTER: Need better service on CR82
To the editor:
An open letter to the Douglas County Highway Department:
Hi. Could you all devote more time and care into cleaning up County Road 82, please? Then just maybe we'll not have to read so many articles in this paper such as "Woman critical after two-car accident." Surely you have the technology to make our roads at least somewhat cleaner and hopefully safer. I mean, this is Minnesota, where life does not come to a screeching halt just because we got a foot of snow the night before.
Employers expect people to be at work in this state, come blizzards, ice storms, whatever nature throws at us (making us risk life and limb to make a buck). County Road 82 is a major thoroughfare for those of us who live in towns that lie on it. Many people depend on it to get to work.
This past Tuesday when I had to go to Alexandria, 82 was very snowy with patches of ice visible. Because of the poor condition of "the back road," I decided to use the freeway for the rest of my travels. Turns out I-94 was almost perfectly clean, making me ponder the differences in the two roadways.
If it's at all possible, please try harder to improve the negative views many of us have about your road-cleaning practices and do better for our roads. Thank you.
