Letter - All, some or none of Bible is absolute truth

To the editor:

I do not want to reduce anyone's faith in their beliefs. What I do want is for all people to honestly think. Just because you read something doesn't mean that what you read is true.

There are many letters to the editor that refer to the Bible. I would say that it would be a very rare person that actually believes that every word in the Bible is the word of God. The Bible is a collection of writings that was written over a span of time by various authors. The Bible was not written in English. It has been translated into English by humans (mostly men).

I am not sure who the people that wrote or translated the Bible were, I doubt that the human race will ever know the answer to that question.

I have been lucky enough to have had the time and freedom to read what I can get my hands on. I have read a bible from cover to cover (some parts of it several times because it doesn't have congruity and in places seems to be contradictory). I have read the Quran and writings by other religious groups.

I believe that all authors, including me, have an agenda. So if you are one of those that pick and choose which verses of the Bible you believe, try to understand that all, some or none of it is the absolute truth and that you really have no way of knowing for sure. Base your actions in this life by asking yourself: Is what I am about to do going to make the world a better place for all sentient beings and Mother Earth itself, or just for me and mine?
