Phyllis Keith

Phyllis Jean Keith, 92, passed away peacefully on January 23rd, 2018 in Alexandria surrounded by friends and family. She was born on February 20th, 1925 in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from East High in 1943 and exceeded in journalism, writing for her school newspaper and worked for the Des Moines Register and Tribune. Phyllis was a champion golfer, competitive bowler and roller skater. She fell in love with Don Keith in 1941, they married in 1943 in Deerborn, MI. Their 67 years of marriage was full of love and adventure. They loved to ballroom dance, golfed together and traveled all across the United States seeing the sites, family and friends. In 2001 they moved to Alexandria, MN.

She was so grateful and proud to be a homemaker, raising her two children. She also helped manage Daniel's Grocery Store, owned by her mother. Phyllis was a very generous and compassionate woman, known for her quick wit and canny sense of humor. Anytime friends or family needed her, she was there bringing meals, comfort and support through good and tough times. Phyllis made friends everywhere she went, and she rarely forgot a face or name. She had an incredible gift of sharing stories, vividly recounting her rich history and her memory stayed sharp all her days.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Elizabeth Speck; husband Don R. Keith Sr.; brother Robert L. Speck; and many beloved cousins. She is survived by her son Don R. Keith Jr (Mary Alyce); daughter Shelly Nelson (Jim); grandchildren Ryan Keith (Jennifer); Katherine Keith Stearns; Jimmy Nelson (Stacey); Chelsea Lee (Justin); Erika Nelson; Derek Nelson; great grandchildren Quinn, Canon, Ewan, Tiberius, Peyton and Reece and many more beloved cousins.

A celebration of life and remembrance will be held at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN. February 18th, 2018. Visitation will be at 1:00pm followed by service at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
