Eleanor Margaret Brekke was born June 28th, 1915, in Pennington County, Kratka Township, Minnesota, the daughter of Charles and Emily Brekke. Her father, Charles, was born in Telemarken, Norway, and immigrated to the United States when he was eighteen years of age, coming to Aneta, North Dakota, and later United in marriage to Emily Hedeen. Their eldest daughter, Gladys, was born in 1912 in the same county as above. The family farmed at Thief River Falls, Hazel, and Red Lake until 1924, when they relocated to Osakis Township, north-east of Nelson.

After retiring from sales, she took care of her grandchildren, Todd and Jason, by day, while Majel taught specialized education classes. Her greatest joy was being a grandmother and most recently, a great grandmother to Maya Eleanor.
