Florence Mary (Patzwald) Hoppe was born on May 5, 1925, in a snowstorm, in Leaf Valley Township, Douglas County, Minnesota, the only child of Herman and Clara (Guenther) Patzwald. She graduated from Central High School in Alexandria. Florence started working at Woolworths as a bookkeeper while in school and continued until she got married.

Florence was united in marriage to Edwin Hoppe on August 1, 1946. The couple moved to Erdahl Township in Grant County where they farmed for 53 years. They were blessed with 5 children. Florence enjoyed working as a family on the farm. Later years Florence went to work at 3M for 5 years. In 1999, the couple moved to Alexandria due to Edwin's health, and Edwin passed in January of 2000.

Florence enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, leather work, snowmobiling, riding horses, reading, dancing, and quilting. She also did cake decorating and ceramics.

Florence died on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at the Douglas County Hospital at the age of 92. She is survived by her children, JoAnn (Chuck) Gramlow of Alexandria, James (Kate) Hoppe of Powell, WY, Judy (Jeffrey) Wilke of Parkers Prairie, Joyce Blair of Lowry, and Janet Fischer of Alexandria; grandchildren, Chad (Kelly) Gramlow, Curt (Angie) Blair, Renae (Tyrone) Browley Katie (Kyle) Nichtern, Greg Wilke, Lynnae (Todd) Degler, Boone Fischer and Mitch Fischer; great-grandchildren, Cole, Maxwell, and Aristotle Gramlow, step-grandchildren, Erika and Liam; Clay, Brady, Kennedy, and William Blair; Titus, Tyson, Jaden, and Aliya Browley; James, Marshall, Norah, and Leo Nichtern; and Easton Degler; aunt, Hildegarde Ziegelman.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria with Reverend Goeff Gronewold officiating. Inurnment will take place at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria at a later date.
