Carroll D. Abel
Carroll Dean Abel was born March 23, 1948 in Hoffman, MN, the son of Daniel and Jeannette (Olson) Abel. Carroll grew up in the Hoffman area and was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Hoffman. He graduated from Hoffman High School.
Following high school Carroll joined the United States Air Force. He was trained as an aircraft mechanic and served at Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas, NV. After four years of service to his country he was discharged and moved to the Alexandria, MN area. Carroll began working for Bellanca Aircraft in Alexandria where the Bellanca Aircraft was manufactured. After forty-six years with Bellanca Carroll retired after his health began to decline.
Carroll loved aviation and was a model aircraft builder. He has a large collection of model aircraft. Carroll also enjoyed spending time going for a drive or watching old western movies. Carroll was a member of the American Legion Post 87 in Alexandria.
On Sunday, February 12, 2017 Carroll died, following a short battle with lung cancer, at the age of sixty-eight years. He was preceded in death by his parents; special friend, Connie Nelson; brother, Delano Abel; and brother-in-law, James Yackel. Carroll is survived by his brothers, Jerry Abel and wife Judy, of Diamond Bar, CA, Gene Abel of Blaine, MN, Dennis Abel and wife, Mary, of Roseville, MN, and Allen Abel and wife Carolyn, of Cottage Grove, MN; sisters, Joyce Strunk and husband, Richard, of Bella Vista, AR, Marilyn Yackel of Glenwood, MN and Mary Johnsrud and husband, Richard, of Ashby, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 1:30 PM Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
