Bailey Schaefer set the tone for the Brandon-Evansville volleyball team on Tuesday, racking up 14 aces in the Chargers’ 3-1 win at Rothsay.

B-E opened up with double-digit aces in the first set to turn in a 25-13 win. They followed it up by taking a 25-23 decision in the second.

“We carried that momentum (from the first set) into the second,” Chargers head coach Kelly Olson said. “Although we didn’t have as many aces during that set, our transition offense was strong with our middles establishing themselves.”

The Tigers dodged the sweep in the third set, however, pulling off a 25-23 win.

“We seemed to relax a bit on defense, and too many missed serves lost us the set,” Olson said. “Rothsay capitalized on our errors and showed they weren’t ready to quit.”

Nevertheless, Brandon-Evansville came back in the fourth set with a decisive 25-20 victory.

“(We jumped) out to a commanding lead. I would have liked to see the girls expand the lead more than they did, but when the end came, we made the plays that we needed to,” Olson said. “It’s always nice to win on the road, and we are happy to get out of Rothsay with a 3-1 win.”

Individually, Schaefer added 18 kills to her 14 aces. Mikenna Pattrin totalled eight kills, and Madison Quinn tallied 33 set assists. Defensively, Quinn picked up the Chargers’ lone block of the night, while Sara Jacobson ran out to a team-high 13 digs.
