Summerfest Aug. 1-5 in Brandon

Brandon's annual Summerfest celebration kicks off Wednesday, Aug. 1, and features a variety of activities and events over the next five days.

It all starts at 5 p.m. Wednesday with the Brandon Community Club's pork chop feed at Lions Park, and live music by Dana & the Bottle Rockets.

A vintage car club show is set for 5-7 p.m. Thursday, on the east side of Central and north side of Front Street. At 7 p.m. Thursday, there's a Miss Tootsie pageant at the Brandon High School gymnasium.

Friday starts with community garage sales at 7 a.m. In the evening, a Fin & Feather bean bag tournament begins at 6 p.m. at Lions Park, with registration one hour earlier. To register, call Scott at 320-491-1198 and leave a message.

The big day is Saturday, starting with garage sales at 7 a.m. and concluding with a bang, with a fireworks show at dusk on the Brandon high school football field.

A 4-H craft and vendor show runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the city auditorium, but closes during the grand parade at 11 a.m. Bruce and Janet Nelson are grand marshals of the parade, which is preceded by a kiddie parade at 10:45 a.m.

Grace Lutheran Church hosts a salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and there are bounce houses and water wars at Memorial Park from 12:30-4 p.m., a youth scavenger hunt at 1 p.m. at the city auditorium, and a kids' pedal pull at 1:30 p.m. on Front Street.

The Brandon Lions Club hosts bingo at Lions Park from 2-4:30 p.m., and the Brandon Lions Club fish fry dinner is from 4:45-7 p.m. at Lions Park.

A street dance for those 21 and over is from 8 p.m. to midnight with the band Blonde & the Bohunk.

Men's softball and ladies sand volleyball tournaments are scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday, with a golf scramble at Pine Ridge Saturday afternoon. To register for the volleyball tournament, call 320-815-9182, and for the golf scramble, 320-834-4028.

Finally, a men's roundtable pancake breakfast at St. Ann's Catholic Church wraps things up from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday.
