Boys basketball: Knights snap three-game skid
The West Central Area boys basketball team got back on track in the first game of the Minnesota National Bank Holiday Tournament in Pelican Rapids on Dec. 28 with a 57-44 win over Warroad.
The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Knights (3-3). They shot 47 percent (24-51) and out-rebounded the Warriors (3-4) 44-30 to secure the victory.
"We were proud of the guys' fortitude and the poise we played with once the Warriors took the lead, and how we responded by getting defensive stops and going on the 23-5 run to close out the game," WCA head coach Kraig Hunter said. "We had a pretty good night defensively. We applied better ball pressure, and we had a great night on the boards. Our post players had a good night inside again."
Senior forward Dawson Staples led WCA with 24 points and five rebounds. Senior center Logan Paulson added 14 points, eight rebounds and four assists, while senior guard Ross Anderson had 15 rebounds and six assists to go along with two points.
The win moved the Knights into the championship game of the tournament against Pelican Rapids (4-3) on Dec. 29 at 7:45 p.m.
