Boys basketball: Hoepner leads Cardinals to two wins

Trey Hoepner

Alexandria's Trey Hoepner broke out in a big way over the last two games for the Cardinal boys basketball team as he led the way to wins over Rocori and Detroit Lakes.

That snapped a two-game skid to start the season as the junior guard put in 27 points in guiding Alexandria (2-2, 1-1 CLC) over Rocori 73-65 last Thursday. He then put up 24 points in a 59-50 win over section-foe Detroit Lakes on Saturday.

Hoepner shot a combined 17-of-28 in the two games and knocked down 11 threes, including a 6-of-10 game from beyond the arc against the Lakers.

Senior forward Justin Balcome also added double figures in both games. He had a huge line of 14 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, seven blocks and four steals against the Lakers (2-3). He added 17 points and 12 boards against the Spartans (1-4).

Senior guard Jared Schneider also had 12 points against Rocori to help the Cardinals to their first Central Lakes Conference win of the season.
