Roste, Staloch up for Powerade Athletes of the Year

Jaran Roste of Alexandria and Morgan Staloch of Osakis have been nominated for consideration to receive Powerade Athlete of the Year Awards.

The award, along with $1,000, will be given to 10 student finalists who have been recognized within their schools for their community and extracurricular involvement, according to

Seventeen boys and 31 girls are listed on the website along with their essay explaining why they should receive the award, and one boy and one girl can be voted on by an individual each day until May 7.

Both Roste and Staloch are three-sport athletes, with Roste participating in football, basketball and track and field and Staloch in volleyball, basketball and softball.

Staloch plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth for a bachelor's degree in business, while Roste plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities to play quarterback for the Gophers as a preferred walk-on while pursuing a business administration degree with an emphasis on business law.
