Grassfire burns in strong winds, dry conditions

The Alexandria, Garfield and Carlos fire departments were called to a grass fire at about 10:30 a.m. Friday near Carlos Creek Winery and Oakwood terrace.

The fire, which burned part of a field, was located southwest of Carlos Creek Winery along County Road 34. The grassfire burned up to the fenceline of the Oakwood Terrace neighborhood.

As of about 11 a.m. the fire was mostly extinguished and crews were just mopping up a few spots.

According to scanner traffic, the fire might have been started by a vehicle in the field that had gotten stuck and was trying to get out.

There was a strong wind from the north-northwest at the time of the fire.
