Saturday's West Central Area speech team was small in numbers but strong in talent. Several students missed speaking in Graceville as many were ill, but those who performed found themselves working together to earn a third place finish as a team.

John Barber finished in second, a career best, in discussion, followed by Solomon Sewell in third. Rose Borash won a fifth-place ribbon in informative speaking. Max Duncan earned a third place medal in humorous interpretation.

Alana Olson and Gabe Olson each got sixth in prose and storytelling, respectively. Sewell earned a third-place medal in original oratory.

Champions for the day were Matthew Poyzer in drama, Brianna Kreft in extemporaneous reading and Kristin Gilbertson in poetry.
