ATV crashes through ice on Lobster Lake

Three people were able to escape after their side-by-side ATV broke through the ice on Lobster Lake on Friday night.

In a news release, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said Brian Van Nevel reported that his 2016 Honda Pioneer Class 2 ATV went through the ice at Cherry Point on Lobster Lake, which south of Interstate 94 at the Garfield exit. Van Nevel said he and two friends were driving around Cherry Point when the ATV went through the ice in about 6 feet of water. All three people were able to get out of the enclosed cab.

According to Douglas County Sheriff Troy Wolbersen, two dogs were also involved in the incident. One was able to escape the water, while the other drowned. 

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reminds all users of area lakes that ice may appear to be safe but caution should always be used, especially when traveling in unfamiliar areas.
