Road work to begin on County Road 3: Detours set up
Reconstruction of County Road 3, between County Road 10 and County Road 71 north of Osakis, will begin Monday, Sept. 10.
According to Douglas County Public Works Director Dave Robley, the first operation will be to grind the existing asphalt surface, which will be salvaged and used as temporary gravel while the grading work is being done.
Work will then begin County Road 10 and progress to the north, Robley explained in a news release Friday afternoon. The road will be reconstructed and gravel surfacing will be placed yet this fall. The road will remain gravel through the winter to allow for settlement before paving. Paving will take place next summer, he said.
“This project will improve the curves and provide wider shoulders for increased safety,” Robley said.
There will be a detour set up on County Roads 82, 9 and 13 through Nelson and Carlos.
Riley Bros. Construction of Morris is the contractor on the $1.25 million project. Work is expected to be completed by the end of October, weather permitting.
Funding for this project is from the local option sales tax for transportation, which was adopted by the Douglas County Board in 2014.
“We understand the inconvenience this road construction presents and appreciate everyone’s patience during the project,” Robley said. “The newly constructed roadway will be a significant improvement for all motorists.”
