Gun safety is topic of event Saturday
A community conversation about gun safety will take place in Alexandria this Saturday, May 19.
Gail Kulp, the DFL candidate for Minnesota House District 8B, announced Friday that her campaign, People for Gail Kulp, will host the event from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Alexandria Technical and Community College, 1601 Jefferson St., Room 205.
Kulp said the goal is to discuss ways to balance constitutional protections and cherished hunting and family traditions with ways to reduce the dangers of gun violence.
"It's important for legislators to listen to a wide range of opinions in order to serve people fairly on this issue," said Kulp.
Community members who understand best practices for safe and responsible gun ownership, who have been impacted by gun violence and who have expertise in mental health risks will give short statements to start the discussion.
With assistance of a moderator, the public will have the opportunity to comment, ask questions and discuss ways to increase gun safety.
The conversation is organized and sponsored by People for Gail Kulp, with support from Alexandria Area Our Revolution. Everyone is welcome to attend or send email questions and comments to info@GailKulp.com.
