Council refinances electric bonds
A refinancing of electric utility revenue bonds is expected to save Alexandria Light and Power Utilities nearly $100,000.
At its meeting Monday, the Alexandria City Council approved the sale of the $1.685 million bonds that will refund bonds issued in 2007.
The sale was also approved by the Board of Public Works at its Oct. 3 meeting.
Following are two more items from the council meeting that weren't included in other stories.
Professional Women's Week
The council proclaimed Oct. 22-28 as Professional Women's Week in Alexandria. The event is sponsored by the Lakes Area Professional Women.
The resolution noted that women-owned businesses account for 30 percent of all businesses in the U.S., generate $1.4 trillion in sales and employ 7.9 million people.
On-street trailer parking
The council gave final approval to an ordinance that clarifies the regulations for on-street parking of trailers. Under the revised ordinance, it's illegal to leave or park a trailer that's detached from its towing vehicle, or a semitrailer on or within the limits of any street or right of way.
