Council refinances electric bonds

A refinancing of electric utility revenue bonds is expected to save Alexandria Light and Power Utilities nearly $100,000.

At its meeting Monday, the Alexandria City Council approved the sale of the $1.685 million bonds that will refund bonds issued in 2007.

The sale was also approved by the Board of Public Works at its Oct. 3 meeting.

Following are two more items from the council meeting that weren't included in other stories.

Professional Women's Week

The council proclaimed Oct. 22-28 as Professional Women's Week in Alexandria. The event is sponsored by the Lakes Area Professional Women.

The resolution noted that women-owned businesses account for 30 percent of all businesses in the U.S., generate $1.4 trillion in sales and employ 7.9 million people.

On-street trailer parking

The council gave final approval to an ordinance that clarifies the regulations for on-street parking of trailers. Under the revised ordinance, it's illegal to leave or park a trailer that's detached from its towing vehicle, or a semitrailer on or within the limits of any street or right of way.

Al Edenloff

Al Edenloff is the news and opinion page editor for the Echo Press. He was born in Alexandria and lived most of his childhood in Parkers Prairie. He graduated with honors from Moorhead State University with a degree in mass communications, print journalism. He interned at the Echo Press in the summer of 1983 and was hired a year later as a sports reporter. He also worked as a news reporter/photographer. Al is a four-time winner of the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Herman Roe Award, which honors excellence in editorial writing.
