County to discuss comments on potential gravel pit near Forada
The next step for a proposed 39.9-acre gravel pit near Forada will take place during the Douglas County Planning Advisory Commission/Board of Adjustment meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10.
Members of the public were encouraged to send in comments to Douglas County Land and Resource Management by Sept. 29. At 6:30 p.m., those comments are scheduled to be reviewed.
According to director of Douglas County Land and Resource Management Dave Rush, comments will be discussed at the meeting but there will not be a formal presentation or an opportunity for members of the public to voice concerns.
The meeting will be held in the Douglas County Commissioner’s room on the second floor of the Douglas County Courthouse at 305 8th Avenue West, Alexandria.About the gravel pit
The proposal for the gravel pit was submitted by Minnerath Investments LLC, owned by Joe Minnerath, who also owns road contractor Central Specialties Inc. It states that the company would mine the agricultural land for gravel.
The proposed 39.9-acre site for the gravel pit is in Hudson Township, next to the city of Forada. An entrance and exit would be built on County Road 4 at the north end of the site. It would operate from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday from April through November, and trucks would be making an average of 10 trips to the gravel pit per hour.
