Updated: Driver killed, four children injured on I-94 near St. Cloud

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – A pickup driven by a Fargo man rear-ended an SUV on Interstate 94 near St. Cloud, killing the SUV driver and injuring four children, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The woman killed in the crash has been identified as Melissa Ann Ali, 37, of St. Cloud.  

A 2000 Ford Expedition driven by Ali and a 2012 Ford F-150, driven by Wyatt Richards, 20, of Fargo, were both westbound on I-94 about 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 18, when the F-150 rear-ended the Expedition, the patrol said.

The Expedition went into the right ditch and rolled several times, the patrol said.

Four children in the SUV suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, and they were treated at a St. Cloud hospital, the patrol said. They were identified as Asli Ali, 15, Amina Ali, 12, Malik Ali, 8, and Omar Ali, 6.

Richards was not hurt, the patrol said.

Melissa Ann Ali was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said; her children and Richards were belted. 

The patrol said alcohol was not involved in the crash.
