Two killed near Redwood Falls when car hits truck

REDWOOD FALLS, Minn. — Both the driver and passenger of a car were killed Friday in a head-on collision with a semi on U.S. Highway 71.

Justin Michael Ahrens, 38, of Morton, and Brittany Renae Olson, 25, of Redwood Falls, died when the 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Ahrens crossed into oncoming traffic in Paxton Township of Redwood County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Ahrens was not wearing a safety belt; Olson was.

Colin James Grams, 46, of Bird Island, was driving a 1999 International semi-tractor. Grams was wearing a seat belt. He suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening and was treated at Redwood Falls Hospital.

The Patrol said alcohol was not a factor in the accident reported at 2:52 p.m. Friday, and the road was dry at the time.

The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, Redwood Police Department, the Lower Sioux Tribal Police Department, Redwood Fire and North Ambulance assisted the State Patrol at the scene.
